We wanted to make sure our petition was Pro-Fair Trade Chocolate, rather than Anti-Supermarket for not selling Fair Trade Chocolate. So, our petition was requesting the sale of Fair Trade Chocolate in local community grocers in the Lower East Side.
We wanted to make sure our Petition addressed the following areas:
- Who we are and our beliefs
- Where companies like Hershey and M&M's get their cocoa beans
- What we are asking for (selling Fair Trade Chocolate in their stores)
- Why they should listen to us
- How we think the sale of Fair Trade Chocolate will affect the store
We divided the students into groups and each group focused on writing a concise, well organized paragraph that addressed one of the above mentioned areas they were assigned.
We combined each of the parts the groups had written to form our petition.
